Born in 1945, Mr. Barros, a Brazilian from Minas Gerais, comes from a family with a strong tradition in working with wood. His uncle was an accomplished luthier, and his father was a woodworker. Since 1989, Mr. Barros has totally dedicated himself to building acoustic string instruments.
Previously, he was a student of Jô Nunes, a famous luthier who is well known in Brazil as well as internationally.
Mr. Barros, known as Luthier Barros, is considered by the critics as an excellent professional in the art of making acoustic string instruments. His instruments (classical guitar, seven string guitar, viola caipira, mandolin, and cavaquinho) have achieved much praise among Brazilian instrumentalists for their craftsmanship and excellent qualities.
Barros has made instuments for famous Brazilian musicians such as João Bosco, Marcos de Pina, José Carlos, Denis Bernard, Marcelo Name, Ciron Silva and others.
According to Mr. Barros, the art of making instruments is a permanent challenge, which demands an endless search for perfection. As a result, he is always looking for innovations to attain even better standards.
